Survivors Abreast Dragonboat Race Team. Peterborough Ontario's Breast Cancer Survivor Team.
Last year, Survivors Abreast held its first Awareness Weekend in October, to mark Breast Cancer Month, and the team plans on organizing a similar event in 2009. There were lots of opportunities for visitors to speak with health care professionals to learn about prevention, diagnosis, breast cancer facts, and resources available in the community to support those living with a diagnosis. Displays and demonstrations were on hand including:
- How to do a proper breast self-exam.
- How to choose the right mastectomy bras & prosthesis
- What inflammatory breast cancer is all about
Representatives from local organizations related to women’s health were available including:
- Peterborough’s Breast Cancer Support Group
- Canadian Cancer Society
- Look Good Feel Better
- Peterborough Public Health Unit
